How To Change Your IP Address Manually

Changing your IP address manually involves configuring network settings on your computer or router, depending on whether you want to change the IP address for a single device or your entire network. Here’s a general overview of how to change your IP address manually:

Change IP Address on a Computer (Windows)

  1. Release Current IP Address:
    • Open a Command Prompt window by pressing Win + R, typing “cmd,” and pressing Enter.
    • In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter:arduinoCopy codeipconfig /release
    • This command will release your current IP address.
  2. Renew IP Address:
    • After releasing the IP address, type the following command and press Enter:bashCopy codeipconfig /renew
    • This command will attempt to renew your IP address. If your network is configured to use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), your computer will receive a new IP address automatically.
  3. Change IP Address Manually (Optional):
    • If you want to set a specific IP address manually, go to your network adapter settings:
      • Right-click the network icon in the taskbar and select “Open Network & Internet settings.”
      • Click “Change adapter options.”
      • Right-click your active network adapter and select “Properties.”
      • Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click the “Properties” button.
      • Choose “Use the following IP address” and enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server manually.
      • Click “OK” to save the changes.

Change IP Address on a Router (for Your Entire Network)

  1. Access Router Settings:
    • Open a web browser and enter your router’s IP address in the address bar. The default IP address for most routers is usually something like “192.168.1.1” or “192.168.0.1.” You can find this information in your router’s documentation or on the manufacturer’s website.
  2. Log In:
    • You’ll be prompted to log in to your router. Enter the username and password. The default credentials are often found in the router’s manual or on a label on the router itself.
  3. Navigate to LAN Settings:
    • Locate the section in your router’s settings related to LAN or Network Settings.
  4. Change IP Address:
    • Within the LAN settings, you should see options to change the router’s IP address. You can typically specify a new IP address in this section.
  5. Save Changes:
    • After changing the router’s IP address, save your changes and restart the router if required.

Keep in mind that changing your IP address may have implications for your network connectivity, and it’s important to understand your network configuration and any potential issues that may arise from modifying your IP settings. Additionally, when changing your router’s IP address, you may need to update your DHCP settings and adjust port forwarding if you have specific services or devices that rely on port forwarding rules.
